Free Training and Distribution (to prevent overdose deaths from Opioids)

The Métis Nation of Alberta will be hosting free drop in (no registration needed) Opioid Awareness and Naloxone Training sessions in Red Deer on September 13th  from 12-7pm at the Red Deer Public Library: Downtown Branch. Below is an outline of what a session includes:
  • Discussion on what opioids are, the different types of opioids and general education
  • Facts on fentanyl and Carfentanil
  • Some statistics on the opioid crisis for 2017 and what 2018 is looking like right now
  • We discuss many harm reduction strategies
  • We talk about some details on the facts about Naloxone
  • We go through how to recognize an overdose, and how to respond through the SAVE ME steps
  • Every individual will get their own free kit, and we go through, in detail, a demonstration on how to use the kit
  • We provide resources on addictions and mental health services
  • We provide brochures, pamphlets and resources on methadone, suboxone and general opioid dependency programs around Alberta
  • Everything we discuss in training, the participants get in hard copy so they don’t have to rely on memory and they can share the info with others
