Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life
Central Alberta AIDS Network Society
Event Location Bower Pond, 4707 Fountain Dr
The Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life takes place in communities all across Canada in September. Each event is hosted by a member agency of the Canadian AIDS Society and every cent raised remains in the community to support direct programs and services for people living with HIV. The Central Alberta AIDS Network Society (CAANS) is the local charity fostering healthy responses to HIV and related issues in Central Alberta and is hosting the Walk on Sunday, September 20th, 2015.
The Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life is the largest awareness and fundraising event for HIV/AIDS in Canada. CAANS provides services through five main pillars of work; Health Promotion, Prevention, Harm Reduction, NightReach and Community Action. Responsible for STBBI prevention and support in the Alberta Health Service Central Zone, our work extends from Drumheller to Drayton Valley and from Nordegg to the Saskatchewan border. All funds raised at the Walk remain in Central Alberta to support our services.
It is estimated that there are more than 71,000 Canadians currently living with HIV/AIDS. There is no cure or vaccine to prevent new infections. HIV/AIDS may not be the death sentence it once was but, as the tagline to our 2010 campaign stated, “Once you have HIV/AIDS, life gets a lot harder.”
