Position / Placement: Direct Client Services/ Court Liaison Worker

Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing supports to victims of crime who may be involved with the criminal justice system. This includes meeting/ speaking with clients, providing support, information and referrals, and follow up to those clients. This position attends court to obtain immediate court data to give to clients and staff. Maintain up to date court appearance information on the database and liaise with the staff regarding upcoming court dates. Provide court orientation, court accompaniment and court preparation for victims who are required to appear in court.

Duties and Responsibilities

Court support:

· Attend docket court when required and update information on client database

· Retrieve information from JOIN as needed

· When required liaise with court detail, Crown Prosecutors office, RCMP and court clerks to obtain accurate information and maintain positive working relationships.

· Inform clients of court outcomes

· Provide court orientation


Case Management:

· Provide front line direct client services to walk-ins, telephone calls. Referrals from RCMP, Crowns office and community agencies and attendance at scenes

· Provide referrals to appropriate agencies

· Consult with RCMP and Crown as needed

· Answer telephone as needed

· Maintain client files

Other duties:

· Attend educational training sessions and required as deemed necessary and approved by the Program Manager

· Complete required e-learning modules

· Attend meetings (staff, board, community etc.) as required

· Carry the on call phone as required

· Cover volunteer shifts when required

· Assist with fundraising events when required



· Degree in Human Services Field or equivalent experience may be considered

· Exceptional oral and written communication Skills

· Excellent interpersonal skills

· Valid Alberta drivers license with a clear drivers abstract

· Must pass enhanced security clearance with RCMP

· Knowledge of the judicial system and victimization an asset

· Sensitivity to the needs of victims of crime and tragedy

· Good computer skills and knowledge of database and word processing programs and Excel are essential

· Willingness to work overtime as required
