Position / Placement: Respect Education - Promotions Team Member Volunteer

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking a Promotions Team Member Volunteer for Respect Education, Prevention & Safety department.  Reporting to the Associate Respect Education , the volunteer will schedule and attend various promotional opportunities, including but not limited to face-to-face meetings in community, teachers’ conventions, fairs, community showcases and special events (Pink Day, Bullying Awareness Week). 

Promotional opportunities will include:

  • Scheduling and attending meetings with community, school, teachers, organizations to promote Respect Education programs and initiatives.

  • Staffing a Respect Education or One Red Cross themed booth (including set-up and take-down).

  • Communicating with community members and/or stakeholders about all Respect Education programs.

  • Facilitating discussions around volunteer opportunities, Red Cross programs and Respect Education workshops/topics.

  • Attending events where a Respect Education presence has been requested and be able to liaise with community members and stakeholders about all Respect Education components. 

There will be training and on-going support and mentorship provided to the volunteer. The volunteer will be expected to communicate closely with Respect Education staff and attend scheduled volunteer training sessions (3-7 hours).

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES

Promotion:

  • Schedule meetings with schools, communities, and organizations

  • Attend meetings and promote Respect Education Programs and initiatives

  • Maintain the upkeep of promotional supplies/materials

  • Garner interest for promotional opportunities

  • Attend scheduled promotional opportunities

  • Professionally represent the Red Cross at all events

  • Assist with outcomes
     

Training:                                                                                                                 

  • Complete Introduction to the Red Cross & Red Crescent movement and Introduction to Volunteerism online courses and any related Respect Education online courses.

  • Attend trainings related to the familiarization of all Respect Education program streams, kits, workshops and training opportunities, etc.

  • Continuously attend training sessions to keep up to date with Red Cross and Respect Education program changes and structures.
     

Preparation:

  • Update and maintain upkeep of promotional booth message/image boards and materials

  • Maintain the upkeep of promotional supplies/materials

  • Attend a promotional meeting/event with staff member
     

Other

Contribute to a healthy and safe working environment.

Perform other duties as required.



QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • Daytime, evening and weekend availability

  • 2 to 4+ hours of uninterrupted time

  • Minimum 18 years of age

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence

  • Access to a working vehicle

  • First Aid is an asset

  • Satisfactory Police Information Check, Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Check

  • Experience working with adults and youth, leading, teaching, public speaking, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May be required to work independently or as part of a team

  • Will be required to drive yourself to and from promotional opportunities in various Central and Southern Alberta communities

  • May be attending promotional events in schools and community organizations with attendances ranging from 20 to 500+ people

  • Be available to volunteer weekdays. Weekends and evening availability is minimal but may be scheduled.

  • Promotional events and meetings may require commitments of 2 to 4+ hours of uninterrupted time


This position requires a successful Canadian criminal record check.
